Today was very stressful. My aunt Jolie is staying with me for a few days - boy was I glad to have her today. We went over to the hospital at around 9:30 this morning. Grady was doing fine - plans were still to transfer him to rehab. He had a routine echo soon after we got there - he did great just squirmed a little - but what do you expect from a baby? A little while later a doctor came in & said that they need to give Grady his immunizations before he gets transferred. They took him to another room (to save us the trauma of seeing him in pain) & gave him 3 shots. By the time his 12:00 feeding came around he was so tired from his busy morning that we couldn't wake him up to eat. He only took about 4 mls. and they put the rest thru his ng tube. The nurse weighed him & he is up to 8 lbs. 4 oz. (a gain of 4 oz. since last time). At about 2:00 the transport team arrived & said they were ready to transfer Grady. By the time they were ready to go it was around 2:45. Grady went by himself in the ambulance. We had to go to the parking garage to get our van and after one wrong turn made it to the rehab facility. When we got there it was already after 3:00 & Grady was crying because he was hungry. The secretary grabbed me to fill out paperwork so I had Jolie stay in with Grady holding the pacifier in his mouth. When I got back to the room I was bombarded with questions from 2 different doctors and a occupational therapist. I wanted to say "Isn't this in his chart? My child is hungry - feed him!" but I didn't - instead I answered their questions as best as I could and finally at about 3:45 they started feeding him. After they fed him he was still very fussy & I asked him if he is scheduled for any pain meds. He was due for pain meds at 4:00 & of course it was past 4:00. They said they have the order in & are waiting for the pharmacy so finally at about 5:00 he got his meds & calmed down. We took a tour of the facility - our primary nurse seems really nice & it kind of put my mind at ease. I know it seems crazy, but when you are in these situations you get really comfortable at a certain place & even though it means that you are getting closer to going home - these moves are quite traumatic. Let's see - we started at Rainbow Babies NICU, transferred to the Cleveland Clinic PICU, moved to stepdown at the Cleveland Clinic and now Rehab (in a completely different building) with the Cleveland Clinic. Each time I think there is no way I can get used to these different people taking care of my baby - but each time it has turned out fine. I just need to have faith that these caregivers know what they are doing & that God has placed Grady there for a reason. We have no idea how long he will stay in rehab.
On a different note, Colby (my 4 year old) is staying with Rosy (my sister). He got a Webkinz for Christmas & she helped him get online today to play with it. I am amazed at his computer skills at 4 years old. When he comes up to the Ronald McDonald House all he wants to do is play on my laptop. I can go to
http://www.disney.com/, click on games & he is good for hours. He is also into the Cars movie. He collects all of the little die cast cars from the movie (I think he has over 30 at this point). He will play for hours lining them up, driving them on his road rug & the latest has been marrying the girl cars to the boy cars. He is such a sweetie & I miss him a lot!
Well, I see that I am going to have to start paying attention to the Buckeyes game. When I started this blog they were up 10-0 & now it's tied. Go Buckeyes!

Jeannie,
So glad Grady made it to rehab! When Isaac went to stepdown I was freaking out that his new nurses didn't know what to do with him--I hated that feeling!
Waiting to hear from Cristina...she said she would text me...
Loved the pics!

Jeannie,
It was so good to talk to you tonight. I look forward to our visit tomorrow. Colby can't wait to show you all that he can do with his webkinz! He's a little whiz on the computer!!!
I know it's very stressful to have to allow others to take care of your baby, especially strangers! Keep trusting God to take care of your precious little Grady. We love you and miss you!!!
