We got to rehab at about 9:45 today. Grady was wide awake & looking around. We started talking to him & he actually cooed today for the first time - so exciting! Jolie said she got him to smile at her but I missed it, so I don't know whether to believe her or not. Ha!Ha!

We have been absolutely overwhelmed by all of the different therapists at rehab. There is physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy (you wouldn't think Grady would need this but it has something to do with him drinking out of a bottle), play therapy..... I'm sure I've missed a couple & I'm not exactly sure what each one of them does yet. Today everyone wanted to evaluate him so it was crazy - he didn't fall asleep until about 2:45 & then he was supposed to get a feed at 3:00. I asked the nurse just to put it thru the feeding tube since he had just fallen asleep. She said ok but didn't seem to think that I knew what I was talking about. Later, the doctor came in & she said that if Grady gets too tired or needs a nap, we need to tell the therapists to stop & come back later. They are also changing his feeds a bit. The doctor wants him to gain more weight (she says he is quite skinny but she should have seen him before). I guess in her defense he is still wearing newborn sleepers & preemie small diapers. She is afraid he is burning too many calories when he is taking oral feeds, so they are only going to give him 3 feeds orally & give him the rest of the feeds entirely thru his tube. Also, a therapist is supposed to give him 2 of the feeds & observe us giving him the 3rd - so we can only give him 1 time per day at this point. I am feeling just a bit overwhelmed with everything.

Jolie & I decided we were going to leave around 5:00 but Grady decided different. Just before we wanted to leave he started screaming & wouldn't stop. We checked his diaper, made sure nothing was poking him, gave him his binky, etc... anything we could think of to get him to calm down & he wouldn't . Finally we went & got his nurse. She held him for a while trying many of the same things that we were trying & they didn't work for her either. At 5:15 she said that he was due for his Ativan (for agitation - he's gotten it since birth) at 5:00 so she went to get it. She gave it to him & about half an hour later he was fine. Since it was almost 6:00 we decided to stay & watch his therapist feed him & then we finally left after that.

The pictures of Grady without clothes are where one of the therapists was working with him.

Also, I forgot to mention in last night's post that Grady's bilirubin levels are almost down to normal - Praise the Lord!
